About Me

My photo

As a visual artist I learned to make sketch books. My interest in books expanded into graduate work in book arts, library science, printing on the handpress, and book binding. Book design and other book arts have been my passion. Deerbrook Editions publishes deserving authors collections in trade paper editions. Our first book came out in 2002. To date we have nine poetry titles and one children's book. Our books are now distributed by Small Press Distribution in California. Recently in correspondence with an author, "deserving authors" came up. As a visual artist and one who appreciates writers, it seemed that there are many creative people, authors of merit, that never get published, never have an exhibit. In this way, Deerbrook Editions tries to make a difference by publishing some of these people, using visual art on covers, and designing beautiful books.

A painting is never finished-
it just stops in interesting places.
--Paul Gardner

I wanted to write
but my pen ran out
with my bottle of ink
and painted the town.

What should we speak of

When we are as old as you? When we shall hear
The rain and wind beat dark December, how,
In this our pinching cave, shall we discourse
The freezing hours away?
—William Shakespeare

What can be worse than having the feeling that I may have accidentally offended somebody that I don't really know? One thing that might console me is the handful of friends, even one, that in their mind, when it comes to me, they would understand, still hold some healthy measure of respect.

Understanding is a virtue
hard to come by,
you can teach me how to love
if you only try, so please,
don't give up so soon . . .
How Suite it is --- Jefferson Airplane

It may have taken forty years, but I think I can say that, thanks to my wife, I have begun to know when to keep my mouth shut.
